Deck Profile # 4: Diamond Zero Turbo

Since I created this blog, about a month ago, this is my second work that relies on Hero monsters and even though I never considered them as something truly remarkable now I have to reconsider and declare myself as a fan of the HERO Archetype. They have some very awesome shenaningans and the decks that you can create with them are almost infinite.

Last time I had focus on the Elemental Heroes in order to summon through Fusion Gate but this time I move on to the next kind of Heroes. Destiny Heroes have been considered for a long time the best of the Heroes but with four of their support having a place in the Ban List (Malicious, Stratos, Destiny Draw, Disk Commander) they are but a crippled version of their former self.

But do not be mistaken they still have a great card in the Unlimited Status, a card that has possibly one of the strongest decks in the whole history of Yu-Gi-Oh! named after him. I am talking of course about Destiny HERO - Diamond Dude, the "Godfather" of the infamous Diamond Dude Turbo (DDT).But as you may know Diamond Dude Turbo it is not viable even in the Traditional Format due to the Limit of Destiny Draw and Allure of Darkness, deck's main Draw Engine and this deck is not a try to reincarnate the fallen deck. This is a try to abuse the effect of Diamond Dude in an even greater scale than the DDT.

But in case you do not know why is the effect of Diamond Dude so great? The answer is that it says "you can activate it's effect during the Main Phase of your next turn". You do not activate the card, just the effect. This means that if there is a cost you do not have to pay it. For Example if you hit Lightning Vortex with Diamond Dude you do not discard in order to activate it, you just destroy the face-up monsters of your opponent. Similiarly if you hit The Beginning of the End you just draw three cards next turn, you do not have to have 7 Darks and remove 5. Just draw 3 cards. I do not know about you but in my book this is plain awesome!

But you cannot throw three The Beggining of the End and three Diamond Dude in a deck and wait to wait to get the combo done. There have to be a way to return The Beginning of the End in the top of your deck. When I thought of that immediatly A Feather of a Phoenix come to mind followed by Raiza but both of them are out of questions due to the lack of searchability and the fact that they do not offer anything more than returning a card in the top of the deck. But then it came to mind a really great card that has this effect (drawback in this case but in this deck it is just awesome). Voila the Plaguespreader Zombie!

Here is the full combo: Having Diamond Dude and The Beginning of the End in your hand and Plaguespreader Zombie in the grave. Summon Zombie by returning The Beginning of the End in top of your deck and then Normal Summon Diamond Dude and activate his effect. Dump The Beginning of the End in the grave, Synchro for a Level Six and next turn get three cards. But this combo does not result by itself in a game win and such it has to be incorporated in a decent deck that not only could hold it's own but also to be able to use those three drawn cards in order to win this turn. I have considered a lot of decks but the one that I have concluded is none other than the infamous Absolute Zero Deck. But enough with the verbiage for now, let's see the deck list.

Monsters x 16
Armageddon Knight x 1
Mystic Tomato x 2
Destiny HERO - Diamond Dude x 3
Destiny HERO - Malicious x 2
Elemental HERO Stratos x 1
Plaguespreader Zombie x 1
Dark Armed Dragon x 1
Deep Sea Diva x 3
Spinned Gillman x 1
Snowman Eater x 1

Armageddon Knight backed up by two Mystic Tomatoes are the main dumping engine for Plaguespreader Zombie. I had originally two Knights and one Tomato but I have find this more flexible and more solid since you will not always have The Beginning of the End in your opening hand. Mystic Tomato can search for Armageddon Knight (for an instant dumping of Plaguespreader Zombie) or Diamond Dude (if you need this part of the combo) or Malicious or Plaguespreader Zombie itself adding search power and flexibility to the deck. Next there are the Destiny Heroes Diamond Dude and Malicious backed up by Stratos all at maxed copies possible and all serve as the first half of the summoning recuirements of Absolute Zero in addition of their separate uses. The first is the star of the deck and such is reasonable to add him in three and the second is a very good card with a powerful effect that allows easy Sychro Summoning. Finally Stratos is a must in every HERO deck as his summon is an instant plus one and it searches for Diamond Dude. Next we have Plaguespreader Zombie, an awesome card that serves as both a tuner and a heart piece of the combo and such is included in the single allowed copy. Finishing with the Dark part of the deck there is Dark Armed Dragon that with all this dumping love this deck haves and nine other Darks needs no justification.

Next there is the Water part of the deck used as the other half of the reguirements of Absolute Zero. Deep Sea Diva is the second tuner of the deck and a really good one. Backed up by an Spinned Gillman it could mean an instant Catastor or two level two tuners in the field ready to use with Malicious and others. Finally a single copy of Snowman Eater is added. I would really like to add a second one but the space is really tight.

Spells x 21
The Beginning of the End x 3
Mega Ton Magical Cannon x 1
Miracle Fusion x 3
Destiny Draw x 1
Pot of Duality x 3
Reinforcements of the Army x 1
Foolish Burial x 1
Future Fusion x 1
Nobleman of Extermination x 1
D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation x 2
Book of Moon x 1
Monster Reborn x 1
Dark Hole x 1
Giant Trunade x 1

Two things you may have noticed when you read the spell list. The first is the seventeen Normal Spell cards that are included that give the Diamond Dude about 42.5% to abuse it's effect even without the help of Plaguespreader Zombie. The second  is the absense of Allure of Darkness. The first card is missing for a very simple reason: I hate it in any deck that do not ultilize Macro Cosmos/Dimensional Fissure or the Return cards and even if you hit with Diamond Dude you still have to remove. I guess most of you will be against of this but this is a decision I stand by.

The Beginning of the End is obviously included in the maximum three copies since you need to have it in your hand in order the combo to work. Mega Ton Magical Cannon is another card that can be used can with Diamond Dude resulting in huge pluses especially nowdays where everyone set everything with no fear for Heavy Storm. I have added only one copy of it in order to minimize the dead draws as possible. If I could I would have used another 3-draw card but both Moray of Greed and Gladiator Beast's Respite have as part of the effect the return of Water/Gladiator Beasts to the deck making them bad for the deck. Miracle Fusion  needs absoloutely no justification in a Absolute Zero Deck.

Next Destiny Draw, a really powerful card but I am somewhat hesitant about it in this deck. I mean with Malicious in hand it is like a Pot of Greed with a bonus and if it is hitted by Diamond Dude is like Pot of Greed but sometimes when I have it and Diamond Dude in hand I prefer not to activate in order to go for the combo. Anyway it is really good card and anyone would be a fool not to use it in a Destiny Hero Deck. Triple Pot of Duality is added in order to ensure as much consistency as possible. Reinforcement of the Army is obviously included since it can search Armageddon Knight, Diamond Dude and Stratos. Foolish Burial is here for additional ways to send Plaguespreader Zombie to the Graveyard and also allows to send a Water in order to summon Absolute Zero. Future Fusion is added for his awesome ability to send two cards in the Grave (most likely Malicious and a Water) making way for more Graveyard shenaningans. When Elemental HERO Esquiridao is released this would be even better since it would allow the dumping of Plaguespreader Zombie through this card so if you play OCG or Dueling Network etc. do not forget to add him.

Nobleman of Extermination is added at one as some Spell/Trap hate. I prefered it over Mystical Space Typhoon since it is a Target for Diamond Dude, I hope I could run one more but again no space. Make sure though to side two Mystical Space Typhoon and maybe a Mobius since this is really vulnerable to possibly every anti-meta Continuous Spell/Trap (Skill Drain, Royal Oppresion, Dimensional Fissure etc.) card that Nobleman cannot touch after they have been fliped face-up. Next there is D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation. I have added two of those since they are really good and it allows for some great plays especially when you have done the Draw-3 combo like the reuse of Plaguespreader. Finally 4 Limited cards are added for their awesome effects that need no justification.

Traps x 3
Royal Decree x 3

This was the only option since I invented in the Spell section of the deck so much in order to achieve maximum effectiveness of Diamond Dude. Nothing else to add here.

Extra Deck x 15
Elemental HERO Absolute Zero x 3
Ally of Justice Catastor x 1
X-Saber Wayne x 1
Flamvell Uruquizas x 1
Gaia Knight, Force of Earth x 1
Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier x 1
Black Rose Dragon x 1
Red Dragon Archfiend x 1
Stardust Dragon x1
Scrap Dragon x 1
Colossal Fighter x 1
Mist Wurm x 1
Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier x 1

The Extra deck includes obviously three copies of Absolute Zero and most of the staple Synchroes. I will not justify Catastor or Stardust but one of the them need a little justification : X-Saber Wayne. I prefered it over Magical Android this deck uses level 4 warriors with low attack and if you have Diva in hand you can use their effect and have a 2100 beater in the field.

This decks is made in a way it not only hold it's own without the combo but also with the drawn three cards to unleash a sereies monsters in the field and wreak havoc to the opponent. To achieve this it uses Graveyard usage cards like Malicious and strong monsters that can be summoned with as less cards as possible like Miracle Fusion summoning Absolute Zero or Dark Armed Dragon or Deep Sea Diva that it is by herself a Synchro or D.D.R. that can bring back Plaguespreader for two additional Synchroes.

All in all this deck is an Absolute Zero Variant that I prefer than the original build and even tough it has some inconsistent draws in the form of additional Beginning of the Ends and Mega Ton Magical Cannon it abuses a really great and interesting combo that can result in multiple pluses.

Thanks for reading and till next time.
